General Conditions
Because carbon-ion radiotherapy requires less burden on the body, the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions may also be eligible for treatment.
However, please understand that this is not a treatment that can be performed for all medical conditions and that the following items must be met as common conditions for indication.
〇The lesion (cancer) must be localized and not extensive.
〇The patient must be able to lie down in a resting position for about 30 minutes.
〇The patient must have a PS (Performance Status) of 0-2 (KI 60 or higher) at the start of treatment.
〇No active and refractory infection in the area to be irradiated.
〇Patients must have been informed of their cancer and wish to undergo carbon-ion radiotherapy of their own will.
【Precautions】
Carbon-ion radiotherapy is a highly effective treatment with minimal side effects. However, as with other treatments, there is a possibility of recurrence.
In addition, not all cancers are eligible for carbon-ion radiotherapy.
Indications for carbon-ion radiotherapy require a comprehensive judgment by a medical specialist. Even if a patient has an eligible disease, there are cases in which it is determined that carbon-ion radiotherapy is not indicated as a result of a post-consultation review, and there are also cases in which carbon-ion radiotherapy cannot be performed for technical reasons, even if all the conditions are met.
